How to Remove a Tractor Stuck in the Mud?

Farm field work occurs in many weather conditions, depending on the season and the type of field work. Tractors that encounter mud often "dig" themselves into the ground by spinning the drive wheels. This accomplishes nothing, but it does make the ultimate removal of the tractor more difficult. The process of pulling the tractor out of the mud is simple and safe if done properly and with the right equipment

Fasten the towing device, either rope, chain or cable, to the stuck tractor below the point of the axle. Use a towing device strong enough to handle the weight of the tractor being towed and long enough to place the tractor used for the towing on dry, solid ground.

Attach the towing device to the drawbar at the back of the towing tractor below the level of the axle. Attaching the towing device above the axle makes the axle a fulcrum and can cause the front of the tractor to lift off the ground creating a risk of rollover.

Ease the towing tractor into the towing device to take up the slack. Apply power smoothly to the towing tractor. Do not jerk on the towing device; doing so creates a greater chance of breaking the towing device.
